Diocese of Charlotte Curriculum Day Meeting Minutes and Action Plans Art Teachers Collaboration Teachers attending: Anastasia Carson-St. Michaels, Amy Davis- St. Patricks/St. Marks, Margene Patrick-Our Lady of Grace, Dianne Robinson-Our Lady of Mercy, Ann Jones-Immaculate Heart of Mary, Jaclyn Schexnayder-St Matthews, Kristen Bolick, St. Gabriel, Angie Olle-St. Ann, Beth Robinson-HTCMS Minutes: Overview of the meeting goal is to share lesson plans and review how they address the Essential Standards. We will discuss any areas of the E.S. that need to be unilaterally enhanced among us. We will come up with an action plan to facilitate where we would like to be. There were many topics of discussion before we began to share L.P. We discussed that successful results may often appear as “uncontrolled chaos” (term used by the morning speacker, Dr. Terry Cline) in our curriculum but this can be one of our strengths as art teachers. We often “work backwards” to an end result by asking the students to research and find their answers from teacher lead questions. Problem solving is a great strength on many levels. We discussed and questioned assessment and issuing grades especially to the elementary level. We then began to share L.P. and discussed how the E.S. related to each. Across the board I found abundant answers to all areas of the E.S. Whenever a teacher would express concern over the need to improve one E.S. or another, the other teachers present would share several ways in which to do that. I was impressed with the versatility and the understanding that was evident in the discussion of E.S. Where we would like to be: Again, as a group we are showing strong evidence of the new E.S being used in our curriculum. We would like to make it easier for us to collaborate ideas so we can benefit from the strengths of the group as a whole. Action Item: Make collaboration easier and continuous. Item 1) responsible: Angie Olle Will set up a Pentrist Board for all of us to place ideas and visuals on. Angie will set this up when she is able to. Item 2)responsible: Beth Robinson Will set up group email list for all to use. Done. Will send out a specific focus from the E.S. such as Critical Response (Have you learned any new tricks to make critiques more successful and more self evaluating?) and ask for feedback based on those standards. These questions will be sent out at least quarterly.
